Baker Remix
Queen-Anne style home in Denver’s baker historic district, built in 1889. Heavily damaged over the years by water, ice, fire and neglect, the home was on the verge of collapse. Complicating rehabilitation efforts, it's status as historically listed meant no alterations could be made to the facade of the home. Careful planning during the ground-up re-build allowed for a rethinking of the 600sf, 120 year old floor plan. The interior was adapted for modern living and increased storage within the confines of the exterior walls. Layers of finishes were peeled back and removed, creating a warm interior palette centered around the historic sand-brick walls. Radiata pine and white oak were introduced to complement the existing brick. Portions of the historic façade were removed, restored, and replaced, while modern windows and all new insulation radically increase energy efficiency and coziness. Forma provided initial assessment, architecture and general contracting services, including oversight of structure stabilization, re-framing, interior and exterior rehabilitation.
